SCOTT WARD
Seattle artist, Scott Ward, originally from the Minneapolis area, studied commercial design and illustration at the University of Minnesota before moving to Seattle in 1989. He has explored many facet of art and worked as an artist in advertising, clothing design, graphic design, theater design, landscape design, interior design and murals. His client list has included the likes of Paper greeting Cards, Seattle Woodland Park Zoo, West Coast Hotels, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, and Seattle University. He started painting in 1999.
Ward’s trademarks are his use of rich saturated colors and his exploration of the spiritual realm with creative playfulness. In his paintings, he explores themes of container and contained, as his images reflect the vitality of the human spirit while pushing the limits of imagination. He creates paintings that are vibrant, yet subtle; vital and contemplative, and full of the light-hearted spirit that bridges the gap between the surreal and sublime, with images that speak not only to the eyes, but also to the heart, mind and spirit as well.
His paintings are a reflection of life in its manifold guises. Through the use of people, animals and stunning landscapes, all characterized by bold color, careful attention to light and shadow, graceful lines and an often startling juxtaposition, each work is a self-portrait of self expression for the artist.
Delightful in spirit, his art is always filled with surprises and rewards us for paying close attention.
Since launching his career as a painter, he has been invited to show his work across the United States. With wide acceptance of his style, colors and form, Ward debuted his greeting card line in May 2001, and prints on canvas, which is based on his growing body of oil paintings.
Presently, Ward is working on several special projects including being asked to create the Seattle Men’s Chorus/Seattle Women’s Chorus 2009-2010 Season artwork. He has been commissioned for four pieces of work, as well as a special piece to commemorate the Seattle Men’s Chorus 30th Anniversary.
