Pink's Monthly Makeover
Meet Erin:
Welcome to Pink Magazine's Annual Pet Makeover! I am so excited to introduce you to Erin, a sweet and playful Labrador/Spaniel mix who is looking for a new home and a family to love. As I walked through the Hilton Head Humane Association, I was introduced to so many adorable pups, anxious for a little love. There are dogs of all shapes, sizes and colors, each with stories of their own, but they all have one thing in common, they need homes. When Nancy Foard, Adoption Coordinator, brought Erin in to meet me, I immediately fell in love. She was so happy that she was wagging her whole body. As a lab owner myself, I have always been attracted to the good-natured and loyal spirit of the breed. In addition, Erin, who has already acclimated to her new name, is a recent addition to the Humane Association and has been examined and prepared for adoption. The only thing left before putting her on the active adoption list was to get her looking pretty and smelling good. Erin was in desperate need of a bath and a haircut. As soon as she cuddled up next to me and looked at me with those big, brown eyes, I knew I had found this year's makeover candidate.
Freshening Up:
A few days later, Franny Gerthoffer, Executive Director of the Hilton Head Humane Association, and Erin met me at Isle of Paws, where owner and groomer Cara Stephenson instantly fell in love with Erin as well. Erin sat perfectly still as Cara cleaned her ears, clipped her toenails and brushed her hair. At only a year-and-a-half old, Erin was comfortable being around people, the other dogs at Isle of Paws and being groomed. This was no surprise to Franny, as her recent behavioral assessment results portrayed her obedience and intelligence were all well above the norm. Erin either exceeded requirements or scored exceptionally in all categories of the assessment. In addition, she knows how to sit, to come when she is called, and enjoys playing. She is definitely well bonded with both humans and other animals.
Next it was time for Erin's bath, which she seemed to thoroughly enjoy. Cara took great care in getting all the dirt off of Erin, and then towel and blow-dried her hair to make it soft and fluffy.
A Cooler Cut:
Finally it was time for Erin's haircut. Although Cara said Erin looked good with a longer hairstyle, she decided to cut it much shorter so she would be cooler for the upcoming summer months. With the skill of ten years in the industry, Cara shaved, trimmed and spruced up Erin's look, leaving her sleek and shiny - a real pretty girl! For her glamour shots, we threw a few strands of pearls around Erin's neck, and had a fun photo shoot in the sunshine. It was heartbreaking to see her ride away with Franny, but I know her new look, along with her sweet spirit, will find her a new home in no time!
