Rebecca Cope
About the Artist
In 2001, Rebecca Cope took a month-long trip to France that changed her life forever. Although her love for art began when she was a young girl, Rebecca's "pilgrimage" to a country full of history and beauty was exactly what she needed to jump start her exciting career as a self-described impressionist artist. "France is just the kind of place you can't help but be inspired by. Anyone who is even a little girly is drawn to France, with all its romance, beauty and unspoiled history. It took me a long time to get there, but now that I have, I keep going back," Rebecca said.
While in France, Rebecca was inspired to begin drawing with pen and ink, and bought her first quill pen. Her high-fashion style of art is enhanced through the minimalistic affects of the ink, which gives her pieces a bold flare. In her color pieces, Rebecca's bold style turns soft with pretty springtime and summer hues. "I love color and I love to see people looking at my art and smiling. Some of my pieces are inspired by specific places or people, but they mostly come from my imagination. I sit down to draw spontaneously and the image just pops on the page. The drawings I do for fun are very free; I love to feel like I truly got the essence of something."
Rebecca's free and bold style has earned her placement in several prominent buildings throughout America and the opportunity to commission her work in some of the most chic boutiques in France. Her drawings portraying historic Boston landmarks are prominently showcased in the 76 suites of the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston, and her drawings of Old New Orleans are displayed in the atrium to the Ballroom at the Marriott in New Orleans.
Rebecca is a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, and her work is displayed and sold throughout Savannah. We discovered Rebecca's art at the Grand Bohemian Gallery at the Mansion at Forsyth Park in Savannah, one of the Kessler Collection boutique hotels, all known for their tremendous art collections and focus on art (www.grandbohemiangallery.com).
Although Rebecca's list of successes is growing by the day, she remains humble in saying that her greatest accomplishments are being a mother and wife to a happy family, and her desire to put relationships first in her life. "Sometimes I get frantic about getting work done, but what I love about how God works in my life is that when I put people first, God always finds a way to work everything out. My greatest desire, above all things, is that my family is right with God." Her family includes her husband, Neal; daughters, Mary and Summer; son, Anderson; and dogs, Pierre and Cyrus. She currently resides in a charming cottage in the Isle of Hope area of Savannah.
Rebecca's dreams for the future include seeing her art on fabrics, such as hand towels, and writing and illustrating a children's book. In addition, she plans to keep travelling and growing in her art.
