From the Kitchen of Ruby Lee's South & TimBuck2

Longtime Islanders remember hot spots from back in the day. Names like The Crow’s Nest, Jim’s Paradise, The Player’s Club, Cadillac’s and Monkey Business were filled with electric energy. They were the places to be seen on the scene. On any given night, you could walk in and count on seeing pretty much everyone you knew. Then there was a lull—no main gathering spots, no places to dance. The island atmosphere began to shift from party animals to families bringing their animals. Basically, the thrill was gone, baby.

However, there’s a new hot spot that’s bringing sexy back and giving mouth-to-mouth to revive that nightlife thrill. I’m talking about Ruby Lee’s South and TimBuck2, a realized vision of native Islander, Tim Singleton. Exuding a sleek, Southern sophistication, this rebirth of the Dunnagans Alley area of the south end of Hilton Head Island fills a void that has sat empty for quite sometime.
With a nod to the era of old jazz and blue’s juke joints, setting the mood with an artisan, hip, and somewhat underground feel, Ruby Lee’s offers up live music seven nights a week. Some of the best local talents take to the stage, as patrons wine, dine and dance the night away. It’s obvious to see that quality is a must; it’s in the art, the top-shelf liquors, the wine list, the food, the décor and the details. Nothing has been missed.

Executive Chef David Vincent Young, a beloved, local, soul chef, and his team, cook up Southern fare that takes you there every time. One customer summed it up by saying, “I’ve traveled the whole world, and this is the only place I can get the best fried chicken and drink Caymus.”

If you haven’t heard yet, Ruby Lee’s South, only a mere 7-months-old, has already expanded and is the place for the 35 and up crowd to have more fun than ever, although there are no age requirements. Now with an exclusive private dining room for up to 12 guests, an expanded dining area, and an intimate venue for private parties, Ruby Lee’s is truly cooking. But, that’s not all.

Stroll to the back of the house and you will find a new, sexy cigar bar, aptly named TimBuck2—and yes, cigar smoking is permitted on site. Don’t worry about the smoke; there are four state-of-the-art ventilation systems—double what engineers said was needed. The walk-in humidor is extensive and offers one of the finest cigar selections in the Lowcountry.

“I want this to be a five-star venue—entertainment, food and atmosphere have to all come together to create an unforgettable experience,” Tim said. “We want to offer up the best, and yet envelop our guests with a mom and pop mentality. This place is a redemption of sorts—a rebirth. A rebirth of the South end, of sophisticated nightlife and of me.”
