From the Kitchen of The Mill Kitchen & Bar
Special Destination Edition
Succulent. Savory. Southern. The Mill Kitchen and Bar is making a mark on the map. As the holidays pass by and the calm of January arrives, it’s time to relax and what better way than a weekend get-away! This charming restaurant is tucked away in historic Roswell, Ga., amongst a small town atmosphere, surrounded by the great shopping and excitement of the city.
Meet the owners:
Co-owners Scott and Randy McCray are no strangers to the restaurant business. It all started with a bar concept, Cosmo Lava Bar, in Midtown and soon expanded to the food scene. Scott and Randy's parents always wanted to open a restaurant and when Randy saw the success of the bar he decided to leave the corporate world to follow his passion for food. He opened Carolyn's Gourmet cafe (named after his mother), following the cafe's success the McCrays opened McCray's Tavern in two locations. Looking for a new venture, Randy spotted the picturesque Roswell location, loving the architecture and feel of it. He and Scott remodeled it to create a comfortable atmosphere with a chef-driven concept and created The Mill Kitchen and Bar. They are looking forward to growing their restaurant group and have recently opened Hook, Line & Schooner, a seafood concept in Smyrna, Ga.
Southern Favorites with a Contemporary Twist
Their farm-to-table concept paired with dedication to quality ingredients offers
authentic cuisine that will have you returning time and again to try a new treat!
The Chefs:
Originally from Virginia, Executive Chef Daniel Marteny attributes his desire to become a chef to Gordon Ramsey and Hell's Kitchen. Finding his passion, he decided to attend culinary school at the age of 30. After a lucky break at a restaurant in Alexandria, Va., Chef Daniel earned his first Executive Chef job. He began working with The Mill Kitchen and Bar recently and reworked the menu to reflect his passion for Southern comfort food with a twist, both through presentation and french techniques. Chef Daniel is accompanied by Chef de Cuisine, Michael R. Gambini, a Georgia native who has studied under numerous acclaimed chefs and works to create a perfect dish for every guest.
Ambiance:
Casual elegance best describes the restaurant. Whether you are looking to enjoy the beautiful dining room, cozy outdoor patio with crackling fire or inviting bar there is a place for everyone. And their restaurant is kid-friendly. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio, with the beautiful rock and perfectly appointed southern landscaping. It seems like another little world situated in the middle of the hustle and bustle.
Southern Cuisine:
Quality is of the upmost importance to The Mill Kitchen and Bar and their menu reflects it! Each food item has a special touch that makes it delectable. We sampled the pimento cheese fritters, fried green tomatoes, tex mex burger, shrimp and grits and salmon salad; Every bite was delectable!
They are known for their out-of-this-world fried chicken, Sunday brunch with eggs benedict, signature crab cake, chicken and waffles, bloody mary bar and bottomless mimosas. Best of all, the staff is warm, friendly and knowledgeable.
A Tie to Hilton Head:
Scott and Randy's mom, Carolyn, lived on Hilton Head
for years and worked at the Country Club of Hilton Head.
Spirits: Once you grab a seat at the beautiful hand-crafted bar, you may never want to leave. The bar stays local, too, with at least 8 of the 16 draft beers being local, along with specialty bourbons, vodkas and whiskeys. The variety and unique spirits are astounding.
Locally Sourced: The Mill Kitchen and Bar staff are dedicated to bringing each customer the best of the best. They source their food from local entities, even offering a “meet the farmers” on their website. Randy says “It is important to give back to their community and using local ingredients is a great way to create community ties.”
Make Your Reservation: There is nothing like a nice weekend of great food and fun!
