Fall Fashion’s Top 10 Favorites
September 2019 Issue
by Sharon Mosley
Fall is fashion’s favorite time of year. Designers roll out the runways with updates on the classics and totally new inspirations that will give you a wardrobe ready for the season ahead. Check out these 10 must-have items to add right now:
A Big Blouse
The blouse is back, and it is big ... in volume, that is. Drama is the name of the blouse game, with billowy sleeves, big bows and standout collars. Romantic is the look of this fashion trend.
A plaid jacket Designers are mad for plaid this fall, and the plaid jacket is one of the season’s key pieces. Top off pants and skirts with a roomy jacket in menswear plaids or checks. Then, for a new twist, cinch it with a skinny or wide leather belt.
A Wide-leg Pant
The flare is all there this fall. In high-waisted silhouettes, the wide-leg pants are making a major statement when teamed with menswear jackets, romantic blouses or turtleneck sweaters. Add a higher-heeled boot or shoe to balance the flared hems.
A Leather Trench
Leather is another fall favorite. If you already have your basic leather skirt or a chic moto jacket, then try adding a leather trench coat. This sophisticated take on a classic will go with everything in your wardrobe, day and night. In a long maxi length, it’s even more glamorous.
A Shiny Cocktail Dress
Shimmer is the way to shine this fall and in the holiday season ahead. Sequins glitter and glow in slinky cocktail dresses that have a touch of ‘80s retro appeal.
A Pleated Midi Skirt
Short skirts are having a moment again, and the midi-skirt is inching its way into the top 10 fashion trends. In flowing pleated designs that hit right around mid-calf, these flattering skirts pair perfectly with taller boots.
A Slouchy Sweater
Ahhh, sweater weather is almost here, and what better way to celebrate than with a comfy knit that you can just throw on and go any time of the week. Check out roomy funnel necks and abstract graphic designs. Don’t save these fun sweaters for the weekend only!
A Colorful Suit
Power dressing gets a bright boost of color this fall in sharp suits featuring strong shoulders and wide lapels. Whether you prefer a neon jolt or a more muted desert neutral, wear these pieces in a head-to-toe monochromatic combination.
Animal Print Anything
By now, you’ve figured out animal prints are here to stay. Snakeskin, leopard, python, tiger print ... they’re roaring again this season. But it’s how you wear them that makes them fresh. Combine them with florals, stripes or plaids for a fresh spin on pattern mixing.
A Cape or Cloak
To top it all off, the cape’s the thing. There are several variations on this theme: cloaks, capelets, ponchos, opera coats. Take your pick! You may even want to collect these. Flattering to all shapes and sizes, these toppers are some of the most versatile wardrobe investments you can make this year and for many years of chilly weather to come.
